The Problem of One-Time-Use-Plastic
Dear Friends,
I will from time to time be sharing photos or videos which move me and bring the
‘Plastic Pollution’ problem to the forefront .
However if for a moment we take the problem as a given and shift our attention to :
How Do we solve this crisis ? I think this will be more useful .
Today , I just want to zero in on `thin poly bags’ ……
For the sake of cutting up the whole problem into manageable components , I have divided the issue into 3 parts :
1) Produce-
who is producing the copious amounts of these bags?
why cannot the Government ban the production of these bags in case legislation is already there prohibiting usage of thin poly bags?
2)Use-
we need to , as responsible citizens carry cloth bags with us wherever we go.
we must refuse to buy from places which are not giving customers a choice of cheap cloth bags.
Can the Government fine anyone who is seen holding a plastic bag or selling his wares in one ?
Of course in the beginning this will have to be restricted to below 50 micron plastics- the very thin white or blue bags you see all around but should eventually encompass all plastic bags made from plastics which are not readily recyclable. Having said that I came upon the above article a few days ago……
3) Reuse- This is actually the most exciting step as it addresses the siphoning up of existing plastics into new products. More on this follows…….
